Description   POSITION: DESIGNER QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A.S. Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical training beyond high school, or 2. Six to eight years experience in the preparation of engineering drawings and diagrams requiring a high degree of proficiency, drafting skills and knowledge of industrial design using AutoCAD. 3. Sound working knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Under minimum supervision, performs intermediate to complex design calculations in the preparation of details, sketches, drawings and drawing corrections. 2. Makes layout and study drawings of machinery which require working knowledge in other disciplines. 3. Figures and incorporates flow data and reference material into design drawing (i.e. conveyors, concrete, etc.). 4. Applies standard codes and accepted practices to a wide variety of design areas. 5. Performs material take offs and basic economic comparisons of the systems. 6. Maintains complete and accurate files of all calculations, correspondence and telephone calls. 7. Works with minimum supervision yet when task at hand exceeds responsibilities and/or capabilities, he/she promptly requests assistance from Department Manager. 8. Applies initiative in a constant search for ways to improve work methods, performance and productivity of personnel. 9. Uses company reference file system, job files and tracing files to obtain information from equipment literature or other required information. 10. Makes changes in drawings when required and corrects drawings from marked prints. 11. Checks calculations and designs of co-workers. 12. Keeps immediate supervisor appraised of design problems which may interrupt the efficient and timely completion of project assignment. 13. May be asked to conduct or contribute input to performance evaluation of employees under his/her supervision. 14. Supervises 3-6 drafters and/or designers assigned to him/her. 15. Senior Designers must be able to act effectively as a process design leader and coordinate with other process design leaders to the successful completion of the project. 16. Senior Designers must be able to access field conditions and provide construction support as required. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must become familiar with Engineering Drafting Standards, policies and procedures and incorporate into work. 2. Must be able to work independently and ask appropriate questions when task at hand exceeds scope of abilities. 3. Work should reflect neat, accurate drafting/design abilities. 4. Must be able to initiate, recognize and respect deadlines. 5. Must be able to organize and supervise work within the scope of his/her responsibilities. 6. Must be able to learn and adapt new methods of design and drawing presentation. 7. Must be able to communicate, cooperate and coordinate with co-workers and designers in other disciplines. 8. Must demonstrate initiative and good technical judgment. 9. Must excel as an experienced designer in at least one design area and possess a good working knowledge of others commonly encountered. 10. Must be able to write clear and concise technical reports, letters and specifications. 11. Must be able to interface effectively with clients, vendors and public officials. 12. Must be able to convey constructive criticism and maintain a training oriented relationsh
